Why this place is important to me

This garden is part of the Walker Hall in Kilbirnie where the youth project is held. It's important to the group memebers because it's all about preserving a piece of history. The hall was donated to the people of Kilbirnie by Dr Walker who owned the building way back in the 1800s. Bothe the hall and the garden area are in desperated need of a face lift. The council are takin on the work that needs doing inside the hall as this is all hteir budget will allow for. The SSOIL group would like the opportunity to be part of this regeneration and create an environmentaly friendly community garden for the local people to enjoy.

My plan to improve this place

The idea the SSOIL group have for the garden is to create a productive garden where organic vegetables can be grown and then distributed to members of the community who live in the regeneration area free of charge and for those whoc can affort it we will seel them our produce at a reasonable cost in order to regenerat an income so that we can sustain this project. The group will also learn how to make healthy meals using the produce they have grown, how to make compost and how to use recycled products for our garden. We will plant flowers that will attract butterflies, bees, etc. We will also create feeding areas for birds. Finally, as I mentioned before the Walker Hall is steeped in history ad there is a lot of historical memorabilia stored in the museum which was part of the Walker Hall some of which the council are allowing su to use foe a historical reature garden. This will all be done with the help of our youth workers. By the way S.S.O.I.L. stands for "Sowing Seeds of Inspiration Locally".
